Can Labubu Get Wet? Waterproof Facts Every Collector Should Know

Labubu vinyl figures are water-resistant but not waterproof. Light splashes on the vinyl body cause no harm if dried promptly. Submersion, soaking, or outdoor rain exposure risks water entering joints, damaging faux fur elements, and potentially affecting paint adhesion over time.

What Labubu Can Handle

The PVC vinyl body is inherently water-resistant — the material doesn't absorb water and won't rust. A few drops of water on the surface, a brief splash from a drink, or cleaning with a slightly damp cloth presents no risk to the vinyl itself. Dry promptly with a soft cloth and there's no lasting effect.

This means you don't need to panic if your Labubu gets lightly wet. The key variables are: how much water, where it went, and how quickly you dry it.

What Causes Actual Damage

Water can enter through assembly joints (the connection points between the head, body, and limbs). Once inside, it can remain trapped and cause issues over time — including potential mold growth, oxidation of any metal components in the joint mechanism, and loosening of the assembly.

Faux fur elements are the most water-vulnerable part. Even moderate water exposure can mat the fur permanently and saturate the adhesive bonding it to the vinyl. Rehydrated adhesive sometimes fails entirely, causing the ears to detach.

Extended or repeated exposure to water — displaying outdoors, storing in a humid environment — can affect paint adhesion over months. The protective clear coat on Labubu figures is water-resistant but not indefinitely waterproof under repeated contact.

Outdoor Display and Humidity

Don't display Labubu figures outdoors. Beyond water exposure, outdoor UV, temperature swings, and environmental contaminants (airborne oils, pollen, insects) cause accelerated damage. Even a covered outdoor area with indirect light doesn't provide adequate protection for a collectible with paint details and faux fur elements.

Indoor display in high-humidity environments (bathrooms, unventilated kitchens, basements) requires additional care. Condensation can form on vinyl surfaces in high humidity, and faux fur in persistent high humidity risks mold. Keep figures in climate-controlled rooms with normal indoor humidity levels (40–55% RH).

If you live in a naturally humid climate, a small dehumidifier near your collection area or silica gel packets in enclosed display cases effectively manage ambient moisture without any risk to the figures themselves.
