The rating also reflects blind box mechanics: the random element, the resale market, and the collecting culture surrounding these figures are more appropriate for teenagers and adults than young children.
Actual Safety Considerations
Labubu figures are made of vinyl — a solid, non-toxic material. The main safety consideration is small parts. Some Labubu editions include accessories (hats, wings, attached items) that could detach and present a choking hazard for children under 3.
For children between 3 and 12 who want to handle the figures: remove or secure any detachable accessories. The base vinyl figure itself is durable and age-appropriate for school-age children.
The Blind Box Mechanics Question
The blind box system — paying for a random figure you don't know in advance — introduces gambling-adjacent mechanics that some parents are uncomfortable with for younger children. This is a values-based decision, not a safety one.
