Short-Term Storage (Between Displays)
For temporary storage (days to weeks), keep the figure in its original protective packaging if you still have it. The packaging is designed to hold the figure securely without pressure points that could damage the finish.
If you no longer have the original packaging, wrap the figure in acid-free tissue paper or a microfiber cloth, then place in a snug-fitting cardboard box with foam padding on all sides.
Store in a cool, dry location away from direct sunlight. Avoid attics (heat/humidity extremes) and basements (moisture risk).
Long-Term Storage (Months to Years)
For extended storage, humidity control is critical. Premium PLA is dimensionally stable under normal conditions, but sustained high humidity (above 70% RH) can cause surface changes over time.
Use airtight storage containers (like large zipper bags or sealed plastic bins) with silica gel desiccant packets to control humidity. Replace desiccant every 3-6 months for extended storage.
Temperature: store at 15-25°C (60-77°F). Avoid temperatures above 40°C — PLA begins to soften at elevated temperatures. Keep away from radiators, heating vents, and sunlit windows.
UV and Light Exposure
Direct sunlight is the primary cause of color fading in display collectibles. Even indirect UV exposure over months causes gradual color shift.
For display, position figures away from windows or use UV-filtering glass in display cabinets. For storage, total light exclusion is ideal.
Consider UV-filtering acrylic display boxes (available on Amazon and display accessory retailers) for figures that are both stored and displayed simultaneously.
