Who Is Lafufu?
Lafufu is another character from Kasing Lung's The Monsters universe — the same world that gave us Labubu. While Labubu is the mischievous elf with the signature teeth, Lafufu is a different creature with its own personality and visual identity.
The confusion arises because both share Kasing Lung's design language: expressive faces, compact bodies, and that signature Pop Mart blind box format. At a glance, especially in photos, they can look similar to newcomers.
Visual Differences
Labubu's defining features: prominent teeth (the character's most iconic element), pointed ears, and an impish expression that ranges from playful to chaotic depending on the series. The body shape is compact and slightly hunched.
Lafufu has softer features with a different ear shape and facial structure. The teeth — if present — are less prominent. The overall vibe is gentler and less manic than Labubu. Think of Lafufu as the calmer sibling.
The easiest tell: look at the teeth. If there are big, visible teeth dominating the face, it's almost certainly a Labubu. If the mouth is smaller or closed, you might be looking at a Lafufu.
Collectibility Comparison
Labubu is dramatically more popular and commands higher resale prices. The celebrity endorsements, viral TikTok moments, and larger production runs have all gone to Labubu.
Lafufu is the underdog pick. Fewer releases, smaller community, lower prices. For collectors who like discovering characters before they blow up — or who simply prefer Lafufu's aesthetic — there's an opportunity angle here. Lower competition means easier completion of sets.
Box and Packaging Tells
Pop Mart packaging clearly labels the character name on the box. If you're buying sealed, check the series name and character list on the box side panel. Labubu-specific series will say 'Labubu' prominently.
For opened figures, check the base stamp — it typically includes the character name and series identifier. Secondary market listings should include this in photos; if they don't, ask before buying.
Which to Collect
Collect both if the designs speak to you — they display well together as characters from the same universe. If you're choosing one, Labubu has the stronger community, more releases, and higher cultural visibility. Lafufu is a solid pick if you prefer its calmer aesthetic and want a less competitive collecting experience.
